People's House - Palace of Parliament

After the earthquake of 1977, in full systematization of rural and urban localities, Nicolae Ceausescu decided it is time to start reconstruction of Bucharest.
Architects around the country have competed in the plans of the most ambitious in May. The competition was won by young Anca Petrescu. She suggested raising a series of monumental buildings consisting of House of the Republic, Guest House (now the Hotel Marriot), Radio House, House of Romanian Academy, Ministry of National Defense and the Victory of Socialism Boulevard.

By far the most imposing building was to be the House of the Republic. Ceausescu wanted to make it both residence and headquarters of the Central Committee and the Grand National Assembly. had built a boulevard in front higher than the Champs Elysees and the buildings of the semicircle was to be headquarters of ministries.

The building has been used 5,500 tons of cement, 7 thousand tons of steel, 20 thousand tons of sand, a thousand tons of basalt, 900 thousand cubic meters of wood, 200 thousand meters of patrauti 3500 square meters of glass and leather.
